Tell us a bit about your background:
My name is Sabrizeyad Shoashah, I’m from Gaza, Palestine. Prior to moving to Kuwait, I worked in South America for 8 years. I've been in Kuwait for 10 years, during that time I have taught at the American School of Kuwait, Kuwait English School, and currently at BBS. I enjoy spending my spare time working out, reading and learning about different cultures.
Explain one new approach to teaching and learning that you have:
In my opinion, elementary teachers need to adopt acting and storytelling as a basic method of teaching. I have found that it is an effective method to trigger the students’ attention and minds. Acting out the lesson and the stories in class are important strategies that engage students during the lesson.
Tell us one moment from your teaching experience that was particularly powerful, interesting, or funny:
I remember a funny incident that happened during the last class of the day. While I was writing the title of the lesson, which was about morals , one of the students asked if they may go to the bathroom. From experience, once I approve one of the student's requests, the urgent bathroom requests start multiplying. So, I decided to change the lesson to be about “Wodoaa” and asked all the students to line up and follow me to the bathroom to have a practical “Wodooa” lesson.
Do you have any inspirational words and/or specific sites, organizations, strategies, or links that you’d like to share with other teachers?
"People may feel insecure in the presence of a great figure or an accomplished individual. However, a leader reassures and encourages those around him."
